Haulfryn Caravan Park, Flintshire

-

Meaning ‘Sunny Hill’, Haulfryn Caravan Park couldn’t be better placed. As soon as we arrived at the picture-postcard village of Gorsedd, with a church and the pretty flowerdecked Druid Inn, we turned right, one mile up a country lane between farmland where Haulfryn is situated. We fell in love with the view overlooking farmland and of the Clwydian hills.

It is a quiet, gated site with 29 large fully serviced pitches, big enough for most large motorhomes, all strategically placed with bushes separating each one.

The owner came out to meet us and showed us the site facilities, which really impressed us. The site was opened in July 2019 with very modern facilities, including heated wet room-style showers, toilets and a large disabled en suite with shower and toilet. All were spotlessly clean and had coronavirus sanitisation. There is also a washing up and laundry room.

Outside the gate is a good walking or cycling area, with views across to the mountains of north Wales and the wild flowers around the country lanes.

Turn right and walk one mile to Pantasaph, to see a Franciscan friary where you can visit St David’s Church and St Pio’s shop and café – ideal for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea.

A must to visit in nearby Holywell is St Winefride’s Well, known for being the Lourdes of Wales, with a fascinating tale and where you can bathe in the holy water. Not far from Holywell centre is Greenfield Valley, a 70-acre heritage park and museum with woodland and reservoirs.

Holywell also offers plenty of local shops, cafés and pubs and a small market on Tuesday.

Flintshire offers many beaches to cycle to, and a must-see is the Duke of Lancaster, a former railway steamer passenger ship, moored at Mostyn Dock. Parking is available at Abakhan craft village, five minutes’ walk away, where there is also a café.

Buses are available from Gorsedd to Holywell, one mile from site.
