Camping Pors Péron, Brittany
Pors Péron is a British owned and run two-star campsite in a beautiful part of Finistère in Brittany, close to the long-distance coast path GR34 and a ‘Grand Site de France’, which gives you a clue that the scenery will be grand indeed. This is a very rural location, ideal if you love walking and enjoy peace and quiet; there is no nightlife on site or nearby.
It is a well-maintained site offering 58 generously sized, slightly sloping grass pitches, divided by hedging to provide privacy. All have 10A electric hook-up. It is a popular campsite with repeat visitors, mostly Dutch, German and English, but we found ourselves chatting to neighbours who were from Paris and Sweden.
The site’s facilities include an immaculate toilet and shower block, laundry facilities, motorhome service point, play area and a heated covered swimming pool with a spa tub and paddling pool. Dogs are welcome. There is WiFi on site and a small shop at reception, where fresh bread and pastries may be collected if ordered the night before.
The site is just 300 metres from a beautiful sandy cove, not lifeguarded, with scenic walks along the coast path both west and east. Within half-anhour’s drive is the spectacular Pointe du Van and the equally impressive Pointe du Raz. The latter offers cafés and gift shops, enticing you to stay longer, rather than just walk out to the headland for views of the lighthouse.
Between the two headlands is the glorious beach of Baie des Trépassés. This beach is lifeguarded in July and August, but if you don’t feel confident enough to surf the waves yourself, plenty of entertainment can be had watching others show off their skills.
Sunsets from this beach are worth staying on for the evening.
