Moroccan jewels

-

We have travelled to Morocco a number of times and have always found it a wonderful place. Although it is some years since our last visit, we are sure that the location of campsites will not have changed much. Hopefully, facility-wise, the poorer among them may even have improved!

We used a couple of guidebooks to help us locate sites in both Morocco and Western Sahara, but I believe that the English language guides we used are not now published. However, it might be worth trying to track down a copy of Campings du Maroc 2020-2021 at extrem-sud.com It isn’t cheap, but it was the most accurate of the three guidebooks to campsites that we had taken with us. We actually purchased the book at the ferry office in Algeciras, Spain.

The facilities at many of the sites we used were not up to the standard of sites in Europe, but the location was what mattered.

Camping Zebra, by the Cascades d’Ouzoud, was quirky and different, while Campsite Tifina at Arfoud was new, with the best facilities one could imagine. Camping Kaouki Beach was excellent, and the location of the campsite at Sidi Ifni was right on the beach (pictured below left). The further south we travelled, especially in Western Sahara, the fewer the number of campsites and the more neglected were the facilities.

The jewel in the crown, though, was Camping Manzil la Tortue near Marrakesh. It was expensive but, in our mind, well worth the cost. It even had a regular taxi to take us into the centre with an arranged time for pick-up at the end of the day.

A word of caution, though: our visit was just after Easter and, at the excellent Euro Camping, Azrou, we woke up to a snowcovered motorhome (pictured below)!
