All hail SD Harper

While touring the east coast of Scotland last year, the threeway fridge freezer in our 2018 Elddis Encore 285 failed. We contacted S & D Harper, the main Elddis and Swift dealer in Elgin, Morayshire.

We were indeed surprised to be told to come along as soon as we could to the repair centre.

As it was a Saturday, it was only open until midday. We arrived there just before closing time. We were so taken aback at how helpful the member of staff was who welcomed us.

He carried out some tests and identified the control panel as the cause of the problem. He said the company would have to order a replacement, which wouldn’t be available until the beginning of the week.

Meanwhile, he disappeared for a few minutes and came back with another control panel which he knew had a fault, but at least it would keep the fridge going and its contents fresh over the weekend.

He suggested that we phone his boss on Monday morning to see when a replacement could be available.

We did, and were told to come along the following day and, on Tuesday morning, he came straight to our ’van with a replacement unit. It took only a few minutes to fit the new panel and test the system.

Then, in January this year, we discovered water coming through the roof panel alongside the top window. We contacted Elddis Customer

Care Centre, to be told that we would need to take the motorhome to the nearest Elddis dealer, S & D Harper.

We delivered the ’van and, again, the customer care provided was exceptional.

It dealt with Elddis and obtained authority to do the work under warranty.

Removing the damaged ceiling panel and the top window, it resealed the window properly and fitted new replacement ceiling panels.

Meanwhile, it carried out the annual habitation checks. It even arranged to have an MoT test carried out at a nearby testing station. It also resealed some of exterior joints, and retained the motorhome on its premises for nearly two months without charging us for storage.

Due to the pandemic, it took longer than expected to be permitted to travel to collect the vehicle.

This is our ninth motorhome since we started travelling the UK and Europe in 2000. We have had fairly good service from most of the dealers, but none to match the service we received from S & D Harper.

I suggest to readers that, if they are ever in the area of

Elgin, Morayshire, Grampian or indeed the Highlands and Islands, and need repairs or servicing, I would highly recommend that they contact

S & D Harper
