Vakantiepark Delftse Hout, Delft

-

The campsite at Delftse Hout sits within a large country park estate, half-a-kilometre from the beautiful city of Delft in the south of Holland.

The motorhome and campervan pitch sizes are larger than some European sites; however, as they are on a road-like network, manoeuvrability can be tight for the larger units. The ground for motorhomes is hardstanding due to inset grids, which is practical but not very pretty. Pitches offer hook-up and TV points, water points are shared.

There’s a swimming pool on site and splash pool for the smaller children. A snack bar is set on an elevated position and is open for food and drinks from morning until late.

The staff at reception couldn’t be more helpful and they offer a range of booklets full of offers and discounts in nearby Delft. Buggy cars and bicycles can be hired from reception and a small shop is also on site. The bathroom, wash up and laundry facilities are fine. Showers are free of charge but, with only four showers for the whole site, are in short supply.

Delft is stunning and absolutely worth a visit. The city is built upon a network of canals and is largely pedestrianised. Restaurants and attractions are centred on the market square and the twin spires of the Old Church and the New Church. Known for traditionally produced Royal Blue ceramics, Delft was also the birthplace and home of Dutch master, Vermeer.

The country park of the same name is easily accessible from the campsite and offers a nice lakeside stroll, so long as you don’t mind the naturists at the far side. A bus from outside the campsite will take you to the new and impressive Central Station. From here you can catch a train to the capital city of Den Haag (The Hague), for a little over €5 (£4.46).

Delftse Hout is a clean, tidy and well-managed site. Downsides include that lack of showers and the grid-like set-up of the pitches. All in all, though, this is a good campsite, which is made great because of its proximity to the beautiful city of Delft.
