MMM The Motorhomers' Magazine

One of our windows is missing

-

I found Peter Vaughan’s review of the new Chausson X550 intriguing and enjoyable, both in MMM (Summer, p99) and his video motorhome.ma/ review220 In the latter it is clear from his reverential Attenborough-esque tones that the manufacturer has something that little bit extra-special here.

I might well be persuaded to buy another Fiat-based motorhome if there were not one major fly in the ointment. I’ve puzzled and puzzled about why the inventive designers at Chausson have included just one rear side window, but two passenger seats.

The blank wall, pinboard and mirror are singularly useless. Have they declared their logic in this design quirk?

It means a ’van that might well suit in other regards is of no use to me at all.

PETER VAUGHAN The X550 is certainly an intriguing design and a refreshing change from other copycat models – and I think the Attenborough-esque comment is a compliment, although I’m a little younger, so thanks for that, too. I’m a big fan of the new Chausson, as you guessed, and I agree that the lack of an offside lounge window is a bit odd. I think the pinboard/mirror idea is trying to be funky and, to go with the trendy fabric, inject a bit of ‘designer apartment’ feel.

I, too, would rather have another window, but to say this makes the vehicle “no use at all” seems rather harsh – there are other windows you can see out of and even a rear passenger gets a forward view (no worse than in some other occasional-use travel seats).
