Fridge is kaput

-

Hubby, Dave, and I are very pleased with our newly purchased (two years ago) motorhome, a Swift Escape

614. Its great all-rounder.

However, we have had a problem with our Dometic fridge/freezer from day one. It beeps on a regular basis.

Kevin from Danum Leisure in Doncaster, where we bought Molly, has been great.

It was sorted at the last habitation service, but a few days later the problem returned. It wouldn’t work on gas at all, which we didn’t realise until the contents of the freezer had defrosted, a meat-feast barbecue followed.

I contacted Dometic, which suggested a lovely service agent, 2U Services in Gloucestershire 2uservices. co.uk/wpress which was more local to us than the long drive to Doncaster.

Apparently, the gas ignition has gone kaput… the part has been on order, along with several others, for a while now. Brexit seems to be holding up getting a replacement.

This is very frustrating as we love to go to the beach for the day and go wild camping for long weekends. Certainly, in the recent heatwave it was not possible, unless we ran the engine periodically… adding to emissions and getting told off !

Come on, Dometic, please sort us out.

ED This is a real problem for many, including manufacturers. Covid, Brexit, staffing problems, parts production and shipping delays have all added to create a perfect storm that is hitting the entire industry.

We are regularly hearing about widespread shortages of components for both spares and manufacturing.

That said, it is still worth trying specialist parts suppliers that stock DIY spares to see if they can help.
