Vale of Pickering Caravan Park, North Yorkshire

-

The Vale of Pickering Caravan Park is a family-friendly site situated in Allerston, six-and-a-half miles from the charming town of Pickering.

The site is owned and managed by a local farming family who diversified into tourism over 30 years ago. It is now a well-established family favourite, with many campers returning time and again.

All motorhome pitches are hardstanding but, while there are well-established trees on the periphery of the grounds and marking the route between designated areas, there is little in the way of shrubbery between individual pitches. The site is very well maintained and has won a number of awards.

Because the site is popular with families, it can be busy during school holidays. Although we did visit during this time, we didn’t have any issue accessing the showers either in the morning or evening. Facilities are adequate, free to use and cleaning sprays available in each shower stall for added Covid-secure cleanliness. In addition to standard male and female facilities, the site also offers unisex units, which include full-sized baths.

The local area has a great range of charming places to visit within driving distance. For example, the coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby, the stunning North York Moors and, of course, the historic market towns of Pickering, Malton and Helmsley.

If you prefer using public transport then you’re looking at a 1¼-mile walk to the local bus stop where there’s an hourly service running between Helmsley and Scarborough, via Pickering. There’s also a pub directly opposite the bus stop, called The Cayley Arms.

Pickering is a super little spot and one of the area’s oldest towns. It is also the start of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and has a beautiful station right in the centre of the town.

The Vale of Pickering is a site that is maybe better suited to families than those looking for quiet and relaxation. It also best for those with access to transport, if you’re looking to leave the site and visit some of the many nearby attractions.
