Stow-on-the-Wold Rugby Club Campsite, Gloucestershire
We received a very warm welcome from the club steward. The campsite is a fairly new venture and the club is working hard to develop the facilities and make sure everyone has an enjoyable stay. As the steward is not at the club full time, we were sent a very detailed welcome email prior to our visit to ensure we could find our pitch.
The facilities include toilets and showers in the rugby club changing room area. The men’s showers are communal but, as my husband is an ex-rugby player, this was not unusual for him.
The club is planning to develop the camping area to include a dedicated shower and toilet block. There are two washing-up sinks, a chemical toilet disposal and fresh water taps.
This is a lovely, relaxed site surrounded by the Cotswold Hills with lots of green space for the children to run around and two pieces of play equipment. The bar in the clubhouse is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, when the players are training.
We cycled into Stow to collect provisions and to visit the cafés, pubs

and restaurants. We enjoyed good food at The Bell, where there is plenty of outside seating. We also had a delicious meal at the Old Butcher’s Shop, which included the freshest
John Dory, scallops and oysters.
You can join footpaths from the site and walk for miles without using the roads. We enjoyed cycling on the country lanes and bridleways through picture-postcard Cotswold villages. The children in our group enjoyed visiting Birdland in Bourton-on-the-Water.
The Cotswolds are beautiful with many interesting villages. The children enjoyed playing by the river in Upper and Lower Slaughter. There are numerous National Trust houses and gardens. We liked Hidcote with its Arts and Crafts garden consisting of a series of intricately designed outdoor ‘rooms’. We didn’t find time to visit Cotswold Farm Park so this means we will have to return.
