Newberry Valley Park, Devon

-

Newberry Valley is located on the edge of Combe Martin village and is ideally situated for exploring north Devon.

We arrived at the site just after 5pm and were surprised to find the reception already shut. No matter, though, a call to the number highlighted on the door resulted in a gentleman appearing promptly who showed us to our pitch. We noticed quite a few customers arriving after us, though, so not quite sure of the rationale of such an early closing time.

We loved the layout, which is different tiers of land set out on a fairly lengthy, narrow piece of ground. The effect is that many of the pitches have a secluded feel and tend to be grouped into smaller areas rather than being in a field.

The toilet and shower block is a bit dated by modern standards, but that shouldn’t put anyone off as they are clean, spacious and most of the shower rooms include a toilet and handbasin. Hot water is plentiful and doesn’t keep switching off. There is also a bathroom available at an

additional cost of £3. Part of the block includes a good laundry area and a kitchen area for guests to use.

The site is dog friendly, with a dog walking field, which is large, albeit quite steep. One of the few places dogs can’t go is when you visit the four beautiful alpacas who live adjacent to the site.

There is a fishing lake on site, which seemed popular with a number of the guests. There is a children’s play area, and, if you catch the reception open, it’s possible to put in a bakery and/or meat order from local shops.

A short walk will take you into Combe Martin, which has an attractive beach as well as pubs and shops. From here you can catch a bus into gorgeous Illfracombe, a journey of only five miles. We took a taxi one evening for dinner and had a good time.

All in all, Newberry Valley is a high-quality site, in a really great location.
