Brand recognition

-

Five years ago, my brother and I each purchased a new PLA Plasy motorhome, with the salesman’s pitch that these are brand-new models into the industry and the plan was for the dealer to be promoting these models and taking franchises on board.

However, soon afterwards, they were dropped from the dealer and, in fact, virtually disappeared from the UK.

To obtain replacement parts and/or advice became impossible. In the past few weeks, I have had a problem with the drop-down bed.

I appreciate it is five years old but all I wanted was some advice and maybe even talk with the workshop’s personnel, but I could not even get past the receptionist who was very little help.

Considering these beds are a fairly generic installation and they are not specific to the motorhome manufacturer, I was very disappointed that neither salesman or management returned any of my calls or email requests, and the workshop personnel very clearly directed me away from them explaining they are no longer dealers hence can’t access any info!

When investing in such high-cost motorhomes intending to last us many years, then we also expected them to at least have helpful backup for a lot longer than just a couple of years!

Maybe we should have avoided them and stuck to the industry-recognised motorhomes and left the dealer with the problem?

Alan Maynard

ED We asked Alan if he needs advice from our technical team at MMM regarding his drop-down bed but he had managed to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, Alan bought a brand that no longer exists across Europe. PLA, established by the late Pierluigi Alinari (who was part of the team that bought Caravans International in the 80s and went on to found McLouis) was bought by Rapido in 2016, but the marque is no longer listed on the group’s website.
