MMM The Motorhomers' Magazine

More disability help

-

I’m terminally ill with MND. Unfortunately, I can’t talk or walk anymore, unless my wife helps me; she’s my carer with my 14-year-old daughter. We’ve had five motorhomes; our last one now is a VW T6 converted to a campervan by Hillside four years ago.

Although I enjoy reading both MMM and Campervan magazine, there’s never anything for disability or gadgets that would help disabled people who love motorhome or campervan trips, whether it’s overnight or a few days away.

Before lockdown, we were hoping to use our campervan more often, but this was not meant to be, due to my illness, Covid-19 still around and rising costs of fuel. We have used the campervan for overnight stays near home.

Why not just do a page or two on disability gadgets or camping sites? Wheelchair users cannot go over rough grounds and mobility scooters, which I use, are too low. If electrics get wet they go haywire and if we buy a bigger-wheeled mobility scooter they are too heavy.

Why not design a lightweight, but with bigger wheels, mobility scooter for motorhomes and campervans?

There are gadgets to assist disabled people. Fortunately, I’m different; although I have MND, I still get around on my hands and knees and can use campervan chairs or furniture to get around. I love gadgets that help me in my campervan.
