Camping El Sur, Andalucia

-

Camping El Sur is on top of a hill just a mile from the gorgeous town of

Ronda, one of the most visited places in the region. With an old town dating back to Moorish times and even the more modern part dating back to the 1700s, it’s easy to see why.

The stunning Puente Nuevo bridges the deep gorge between both sides. It’s a bit of a misnomer calling it ‘new bridge’, given building commenced in 1751 and wasn’t completed until 1793.

Not far from here is the famous Ronda bullring, believed to be the oldest in Spain dating back to 1784. The town contains many other historic buildings as well as numerous bars, shops and restaurants.

Camping El Sur was a real find for us. Having wanting to visit Ronda, we almost stumbled across it and immediately it jumped to near the top of our favourite Spanish campsites. There are 124 pitches varying in size from 70m2 to 100m2 and generally not too difficult to access.

A word of warning, though, a lot of the pitches are double ones and it’s one of these we were allocated. Already there was a large motorhome straddled across the middle. We politely asked him to move to his own half and he refused, saying it would interfere with his TV reception! The site owner gave us a new pitch.

The shower block looks recently renovated with showers that have adjustable hot water that don’t keep going off. Fab! The motorhome service point is spacious and easily accessible and the site has a laundry room and decent WiFi. There is an on-site restaurant, shut during our stay, but the menu looked promising and it gets good online reviews.

The price of €25 per night is discounted, depending on length of stay – from 15% for two nights to 25% for six nights or more. Discounts only apply to cash sales!

Overall, Camping El Sur is a terrific site that’s close to Ronda and within a 90-minute drive of Granada, Marbella, Jerez, Gibraltar, Algeciras, Malaga and Seville. We will be back!
