Camping La Ferme de Lann Hoëdic, Brittany

-

This campsite is a gem! It is so easy to miss this part of Brittany in the mad dash south or when visiting the wilder, more rugged parts to the west, but take a detour.

We were enclosed by woodland to one side and open brilliant rape fields to the other. Birdsong was everywhere.

The site has just over a hundred grass pitches, many separated by hedges and a small number of mobile homes in a separate area. There are none of the ‘statics’ that seem to plague many European campsites.

We had a great welcome at reception that also doubles as a small store with bread delivered daily and a good supply of Breton cider. During high season there is a restaurant/ snack bar and evening entertainment. A great touch, we were lent a book of local walks.

The two facility blocks were clean and there was a laundry area. A good-size children’s play area looked quite fun and, of course, there are three boules pitches!

Also for the children is a small petting farm, where campers are

encouraged to recycle their leftover salad. There is an emphasis on recycling with bins and composting bins available.

A pleasant 800-metre stroll (or cycle) through the woods leads to a wonderful, sweeping, sandy beach with great walks in both directions. Turning east, there is a fascinating walk that runs between the beach and the inland marais area, which was covered with yellow irises when we were there. Heading inland you eventually arrive at the stunning Suscinio Château, which is well worth a visit. Returning, you continue the circuit home on a raised boardwalk that winds through the marais.

The walk along the coast to the west, passing numerous stunning sandy beaches, eventually reaches Pointe du Grand Mont with views over to the Quiberon Peninsula, our next stop.
