“Dedicated motorhome parking with water and appreciated” waste emptying facilities would be
Living by the sea in Morecambe has many advantages; we can get a decent ice cream when we want and, standing on the promenade, we can check if the Lake District fells are clear, cloudy or covered in snow. Plenty of motorhomers also like ice creams and the view across Morecambe Bay and, on a summer weekend, scores of them line the coast road. But I thought it was time Morecambe provided more, so I have been asking the authorities to improve the welcome motorhomers receive in our town. Dedicated motorhome parking with water and waste emptying facilities would be appreciated in Morecambe by locals and visitors and demonstrate that motorhomers are more than just tolerated.
I have supported the Campaign for Real Aires UK (CAMpRA) since it began and, turning to its website, I found lots of useful information and template letters.
Once I had wording I was happy with, I sent my email to local tourism officers and councillors and awaited their reply. I know these are busy people but, as the weeks ticked by without even an acknowledgement, I became impatient. I sent my email to more people and eventually it was picked up by someone from the local Business Improvement District (BID) and I received a reply.
This courteous person first gave me the good news that overnight motorhome parking is on the agenda in Morecambe. The bad news was that I shouldn’t expect improved facilities anytime soon. I didn’t totally waste my time but, if you do come and stay in Morecambe, make sure you have a full water tank and an empty loo!
