SWITZERLAND
Camping Obsee, Obwalden
This campsite is situated on the southern shores of Lake Lungern, one of the lakes situated between Brienz and Lucerne.
The restaurant on site, specialising in grill and barbecue dishes, is very popular with Swiss locals as well as visitors and has lovely views over the lake from its elevated position. The well-spaced hardstanding pitches for motorhomes are in an open field, which is mostly level, and on a terrace below is another field for tents.
The views from the field take in the lake and nearby waterfalls, as well as the cable car running up to Turren and, last but not least, the grazing cattle on the other side of the stream. Although we thought the cowbells might keep us awake, in fact we found they were part of the general peaceful atmosphere of the place.
When we visited in late October, the campsite was quite empty and we had the facilities almost to ourselves. There was a generous number of showers and toilets, all spotlessly clean, laundry facilities and play

equipment. The motorhome service point was well set up and easy to access, too.
From Camping Obsee, it is only a few minutes’ walk to the cable car, which takes you up to Turren. From here you can get views of the Bernese Alps, including the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks.
Turren is an ideal starting point for a range of hikes along well-marked routes, which vary in length and difficulty. With enticing destinations including Schönbüel, Feldmoos and Brienzer Rothorn, we could easily have spent several days hiking from here.
However, we were pressed for time, so had to content ourselves on this occasion with an easy, mostly flat cycle around the lake – a distance of about seven miles.
If visiting Camping Obsee in the summer season, you will find that the lake comes alive with people enjoying water sports.
