Awesome Albania

-

I was interested in the article on Albania as we are planning to travel overland to Greece next month. We were planning to go through Albania, but are not able to get comprehensive insurance for the motorhome. Would you be able to give the authors my email address so that I could find out how they dealt with insurance?

ED We went back to Peter Genet, who wrote the article in question, and he made the following comments:

First of all, I hope you have a fantastic trip; we’re looking back at our photos now and wishing we were doing it again.

Our insurer is Caravan Guard and it provided us with a Green Card, based on one month’s travel through Montenegro and Albania. We had to state the date we were entering (we actually entered a few days later but that’s not an issue).

What we couldn’t get insurance cover for (though German drivers can) was for Bosnia due to, apparently, some landmines from the recent-ish war.

The roads in Albania are not too bad to be honest; certainly no worse than currently in the UK. There are more potholes in

Tirana so that’s worth noting.

A Green Card I appreciate is not fully comprehensive cover, but gave us the minimum cover needed to drive in those countries.

As we were only planning on being there for up to five days (now we know it should have been a lot longer), we accepted the risk as being no worse than in the UK. This probably isn’t helping you get your fullcover insurance, but it informs you of what we did.

But, I really do hope you have a great trip and, if you are in Tirana, do the Communist walking tour and visit the National History Museum, too.
