THE SIGNALS

Model Rail (UK) - - Layout Hatch End -

Heathcote Electronics’ IRDOT (Infra Red Detection Of Trains) system plays an important role on ‘Hatch End’. One of its mass-sequencers, complete with timers, auto-sequences the Roger Murray signals. Another nice feature is the blue flash from a gantry mast to represent an arc flash from the pantograph. This, too, is triggered by a Heathcote Electronics IRDOT in the track. Moving to the back of the layout, we have 18 sidings, and each one is fitted with a tiny LED from Micro Miniatures. This helps to tell us if a train is on the move and that the points have switched over correctly, as it’s difficult to see the points at the far end of the layout.
