There may still be just over two months of 2016 left, but that hasn’t stopped Hornby from announcing the first of its 2017 release programme. First off the blocks is the South Eastern & Chatham Railway ‘H’ 0‑4‑4T. The SECR built 66 of these four-coupled tank locomotives, drawn up by Harry Wainwright between 1904 and 1915, and they were a popular and enduring design. Only two were withdrawn before nationalisation, and BR retired the last one in 1964. No. 263 is the sole survivor and has been restored to full SECR condition at the Bluebell Railway. So far, Hornby’s design team has produced a 3D-printed test shot of the CAD artwork. However, liveries, prices and an arrival date have yet to be confirmed.
