PRECISION DECALS WATERSLIDE TRANSFERS

- (GD)

Prior to refurbishment and a fresh coat of DB Schenker (DBS) red paint, a number of operational Class 60s have appeared shabby and faded in recent years. Most notably, the numerals and lettering on former EWS liveried ‘60s’ has taken on a patchy, faded outlook. To help recreate this in miniature, Precision Decals has produced a range of waterslide transfer packs, accurately modelled on individual prototypes. As well as pairs of bodyside numbers and EWS (or EW&S) letters, similarly faded cab front numerals are also provided, along with metallic effect nameplate transfers (although I opted for etched ‘plates on my ‘60’). Various Class 60s are catered for, including 60019/031/065, the latter with suitably tatty Spirit of Jaguar nameplates. Application is straightforward, following removal of the original printed digits with a little T-cut. An overall coat of clear gloss varnish is recommended to help the new decals adhere and, after sealing with matt varnish, the ‘Tug’ can be treated to a suitably weathered finish to match the careworn brandings. Sticking with the Brush Type 5s, another interesting new decal pack is aimed at 60059, including faded and worn Load Haul logos, numbers, and nameplate decals if desired. Prior to its repaint into DBS red, Swinden Dalesman cut

a forlorn sight in its shabby black and orange livery. These decal packs are a great idea. Once applied, the effects are impressive. They’ll certainly add some variety to your Hornby or Lima ‘60s’. And they’re also available in ‘N’ gauge.
