(B) The modern industrial chimney is from Bachmann Scenecraft (44-078), although no longer featured in the range.

(C) The roof of this structure is formed from Pikestuff embossed plastic corrugated sheet.

(D) The angled roof of the low, single storey lean-to was cut from card. Once I was satisfied with the fit, it was used as a template to cut out the roof from Wills embossed slate sheet.

(E) The two aluminium ventilators were painted Humbrol Gunmetal Metallic Enamel (53). They were then washed with a mix of black and light brown to suggest a coating of dust aluminium shouldn’t rust!

(F) A wire conduit from the two ventilators (E), the purpose of which I have actually yet to explain. But it looks good... (G) This lean-to represents the factory toilet. The waste pipes from the wash basins were made using thin wire, purchased from a garden centre while holidaying in Spain. This has a simple roof, again using Wills slates. The windows are from a Peco detailing sprue and the downpipe is made from 0.060in plastic rod. The ‘snowbox’ at the top of the downpipe is a cube of plastic card. Moss is visible where the damp has affected the roof and adjoining wall care of Woodland Scenics

(H) Extractor fans from Walthers.

(I) Thin slivers of ‘I’ section girder create the impression of an overhead crane within the building. A rust-coloured wash was applied with a fine brush, below the two girders to suggest rust stains. (J) Rixs large roof ventilators.

(K) Downpipes were made from 0.060in and 0.080in styrene rod,

with ‘snowboxes’ made from a square section of styrene, drilled and fitted using a spigot located within the walls of the factory.
