The Just Plug Lighting System from Woodland Scenics wins because not only do the component parts - as the name suggests - just plug together, but you can control the brightness of individual lights. It’s a modular system that can be expanded, it’s compatible with both DC and DCC and it’s suitable for any scale, with the street lights using LEDS. Straight out of the box, it’s possible to install three Just Plug street lights in under an hour. The instructions are very easy to follow and a central control unit called the Light Hub (WJP5701, £14.75), is well labelled and almost foolproof in operation. Some of the lampposts are rather too chunky for my liking, but overall it is a great product for beginners. The length of the cable to each light is 91cm, the longest in this survey.
