Model Rail (UK) - - Backscene -

Rather foolishly I’ve decided to ignore the advice to ‘start small’ and have begun work on my first layout. A mere 20ft by 10ft, it incorporates the majority of Cardiff Central station (minus the two valleys lines on platforms 7 and 8), the Chirk Viaduct and aqueduct, a canal basin as the terminus of a narrow gauge section, a town scene with multi-layered station and a large depot complete with turntable. Thanks go to my dad for the use of his large loft! It’s only taken me three months of working at Model Rail for this project to really get off the ground, and it was fasttracked when I bought a layout from a gentleman whose failing eyesight sadly precluded him from being able to use it. I gained plenty of track, two locomotives, 15 wagons and coaches, Hornby Railmaster software with elink controller and an extremely large collection of buildings. Having everything in stock before the baseboards were erected has accelerated the process as I haven’t had to wait for items to be delivered. The next job is to put DCC decoders into the locomotives and get the track wired up, but at least now I have some serious modelling hours to put in the box below! Modelling hours: 40 Note to self: Slow it down, write it down and learn from it!

My Cardiff Central track plan, minus platforms 7 and 8.
