Only a very fortunate modeller can go through his or her entire life being able to buy everything exactly how they want it off the shelf. For everybody else, some form of modification to the models will be necessary. Understandably, some approach this with trepidation. “I’ve spent a lot of money on this model – I don’t want to risk ruining it” is a common phrase, and I’ve uttered those exact words on numerous occasions. But after reassurance from George, and his advice to practise on spare models first, I decided to dive in with a couple of projects that would make two locomotives perfect for my layout.
