Small layout, big fun

This is a 3ft by 2ft mini-layout which I built over six months for The 2017 Needham Market layout competition. The brief was to build a layout within that space, and to include as much movement as possible. About this time, in Model Rail, Paul Lunn produced an article on holiday camp layouts, and the idea took shape. I wanted to try DCC, and perhaps British outline with sound. Bachmann had just introduced their DMU, and the whole concept was starting to crystallise. As an associate member of a local club, I entered the competition. I wanted to try as many new scenic products and ways of doing things as I could. I used Shaper Sheet from Woodland Scenics for the contours, which was a great success. I tried modelling various water effects (with less success!) and I added many accessories and bits from my ‘useful parts’ box. It was great fun.
