My first thought when I took Oxford Rail’s ‘Dean Goods’ with snowplough out of the box for last issue’s review was that it might enable me to fulfil a modelling idea I’ve had for over 20 years – recreating the Soviet armoured train from the James Bond film Goldeneye. Filming took place in 1995, at a time when I was a volunteer (although I didn’t see any filming take place). Lurking under that ridiculous nose and side skirts was Class 20 20188, which was accompanied by a security guard. One day, it was resting over the pit at Wansford so a friend and I asked the guard if we could look underneath it. He agreed, so we took a peek. The front headcode panel, hidden from view, read ‘007’. This cemented Goldeneye as my favourite Bond film (it’s a cracking story with a great cast). I’ve always wanted to model Sean Bean’s armoured train. Could the old Tri-ang Battlespace helicopter launcher be incorporated, too? Whether I’ll get round to it is another matter – watch this space!
Modelling hours this month: Not many. Note to self: So many narrow gauge railways to model, so little time…
