L&B TRIO IN ‘OO9’
Heljan is to complete the trio of Lynton & Barnstaple Railway locomotives in ‘OO9’. It’s already producing 1898 and 1925 Manning Wardle 2-6-2Ts, and will now turn to Baldwin 2-4-2T Lyn. Lyn was built in 1898 by Baldwin, Philadelphia, and shipped to Devon in kit form. It was assembled at the L&B’S Pilton depot. Lyn became the only L&B locomotive to go to Eastleigh Works for overhaul, but it was scrapped alongside Manning Wardles Yeo, Exe and Taw after the line closed in 1935. A replica entered service on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway at Woody Bay earlier this year. As well as offering Lyn in all its L&B guises, Heljan is to offer it in plain black for freelance ‘OO9’ layouts. Specification and prices have yet to be confirmed.
