Diagnose electrical problems fast with a multimeter

Finding and solving electrical problems within layout wiring or locomotive circuits can be a frustrating business, but a multi-function tester – also known as a multimeter – can make the job easier. Available in digital or analogue versions at very competitive prices, they offer a vast array of testing facilities. Resistance, voltage flow and many other tests can be carried out, along with testing batteries for charge. At the simplest level, however, the continuity test function is the most useful, helping us to identify any breaks in a circuit using a pair of contact probes.
