Model Rail (UK) - - Front Page - Richard Foster Editor

We joined forces with Pat Hammond’s online magazine Mremag to launch ‘Model of the Year’ in 2007 (MR99). The concept was simple – “to celebrate excellence and innovation in British outline model railways”. Readers were presented with a shortlist of ready-to-run models in ‘N’, ‘OO’ and ‘O’ produced during 2006, and asked to vote for their favourite. It’s a formula that worked well, with manufacturers vying for the top slot and displaying their certificates – proof of your support – with pride. There’s now a plethora of model railway awards from our competitors that all follow pretty much this format. So, Model of the Year is changing. Rather than wheel it out once a year, Model of the Year will be on display all year. For each new item of ready-to-run tooling reviewed in Model Rail, you can go to our website and vote to decide whether it becomes a contender for ‘Model of the Year’. If you all vote ‘yes’, that model will be shortlisted for a ‘Model of the Year’ award. At the end of the year, you’ll have the chance to vote for the ultimate winner from those shortlisted. That will make the winner truly deserve the title ‘Model of the Year’. Surely that’s something to vie for?
