There are sev­eral other tweaks you can make to im­prove the re­al­ism of your card kit. They’re are eas­ily trans­fer­able to other build­ing kits too.

Adding lights makes a huge dif­fer­ence. Wood­land Scenics Just Plug sys­tem is rec­om­mended as it’s easy to in­stall and is safe for work­ing with card. Make sure you paint the in­te­rior black to pre­vent the light from show­ing through the card.

Above: Just paint­ing the doors in a va­ri­ety of colours makes a mas­sive dif­fer­ence to the over­all ef­fect. Use a small paint­brush and acrylic paint – you may need a cou­ple of coats. In­set: Use a pin head or a thick blob of paint to rep­re­sent the door han­dle. Don’t for­get to paint on a let­ter­box.

Hide the gap un­der the build­ing by run­ning a thin bead of glue along the outer edge. Sprin­kle on some grass or dirt scat­ters and, if the gap is a big one, some fo­liage too.
