Accurascale is to produce the PTA bogie iron-ore/stone tipplers built by Redpath Dorman Long. The 351 vehicles were built in three batches from 1972 for transporting iron ore to Consett, Llanwern, and Ravenscraig steelworks. The closure of Consett and Ravenscraig works led to the transfer of some PTAS, via leasing company Procor, to Foster Yeoman and ARC for working stone trains. From the 1990s, ‘inner’ PTAS were re-coded JUA and ‘outer’ wagons became JTA.

The models will come with NEM coupler pockets and sprung buffers (on the outer wagons) and working buckeye couplers on the ‘inners’. They’ve been designed for easy conversion to ‘EM’ and ‘P4’. Five five-wagon book packs are available, featuring two outer wagons (one with flashing tail light) and three inners, in VTG grey, British Steel blue, British Steel grey/orange, ARC mustard and Yeoman grey. There are also complementary ‘inner packs’, featuring five inner wagons. Tooling work has started and the first PTAS are due in early 2020. Price: From £149.95 Availability: Accurascale
