WORKING DMU GANGWAYS

I’m looking for a set of simple working gangway connectors for my Lima Class 101 and Hornby ‘110’ DMUS. Dean Harding, by e-mail

George says: Those Lima and Hornby DMUS might be a bit ‘long in the tooth’ in some respects, but they still make for convincing models, especially with a little extra detailing work.

One of the most effective improvements is to fill the large gap between the cars with working gangway connectors. For DMUS, I’d recommend the packs from York Modelmaking, which are designed specifically for BR’S first generation of multiple units.

Consisting of laser-cut, interlocking black paper ‘bellows’ and black plastic outer faces, the gangways take only a few moments to assemble. They can then be fitted in place of the original units, which simply unclip from the bodyshell. There’s no need to make any modifications to the body – simply glue the new units in position.

The working gangways look great and work effectively, the tension in the sprung concertina assemblies being readily adjustable.
