ACCURASCALE REVEALS ‘COIL A’ TRIPLE PACKS FOR AUTUMN

-

Continuing the company’s focus on key mineral and steel wagons of the British Rail era, Accurascale’s next ‘OO’ gauge model will be a rendition of the ‘Coil A’ rolled strip steel wagons. The need for specialised rolling stock to convey steel coils in large quantities prompted BR to create a host of different vehicle types in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The model will represent BR’S Diagram 1/412 version, 50

PAULBARTLETT of which were built at Derby Works. All were fitted with roller bearings and vacuum brakes and the steel coils were carried transversely in a timber-lined well.

A nylon hood, supported by three movable bars, protected the steel from the elements. Employed across the network, the

‘Coil A’ fleet carried coils from steel plants to customers in North and South Wales, Teeside, Scotland, the Midlands,

Yorkshire and the South of England. They also carried export traffic to various ports.

Development of the model is well advanced and there’s a wealth of detail on offer, with a full interior being rendered beneath a removable tarpaulin. Wagons will be offered in triple packs, covering their full careers from 1962-1992 and the models are due for delivery around autumn 2021.

Price: £74.95 per pack
