Being a recent release, the mouldings are lovely and crisp with very little tidying up required. Unlike some of the older ‘OO’ releases, there is a modest number of parts to challenge less experienced modellers. In fact, I wish Peco would produce this kit in ‘OO’ and ‘N’!

Before final assembly, I undercoated the main sections: Halfords white primer for the window frames, a misted blend of Halfords yellow and white primers for the cream walls, misted red, black and grey for the brick lower section and a misted blend of Halfords grey primer and matt black for the roof.

The Woodland Scenics Just Plug Lighting system is very easy to install, with the LED lamps featuring self-adhesive pads and pre-wired connectors. Simply plug them into the hub and adjust their brightness with the dimmer controls.

With the inside lit, the signal box’s exterior paintwork could be completed with enamel or acrylics to produce a slightly faded BR Southern Region colour scheme. The Downing Yard signs were created on a computer, after which I turned my attention to the interior…

Peco’s ‘O’ gauge signal box interior kit is perfect for this little structure, providing the lever frame, block and token instruments, desk, stove and the essential armchair, which looks very comfortable!
