Simple baseboards

The one-piece 202cm by 45cm baseboard is a simple construction of 9mm ply on softwood battens. It’s a combination that Andy has used before but, this time, he went for 70mm deep battens so that all wiring, point motors and servos were safely protected in the recess under the board. To support the layout at exhibitions, Steve and Andy use a pair of Ikea Finnvard trestles. “I can’t believe that more people don’t use these,” Andy says. “They’re heightadjustable, well made and they have a shelf that’s really handy for storing stock or power supplies off the floor. What’s more, they’re only £25 each.”
