Cabin fever

-

With the ice hockey season already over and the football season complete by the time you’re reading this, I’ve had a lot more time to work on projects around the house and with modelling, both on my own projects and ones for my iancée.

The biggest project has been adding blinds to the windows and doors in my cabin, prior to installing the electrics. After measuring them several times to ensure I had them all correct (the old ‘measure twice and cut once’ saying was prevalent in my mind) I ordered them on Monday and the ive custom blinds were delivered on the Friday. As excited as I was to it them, a word of caution for anyone else who has a log cabin: it’s very important not to screw two logs together in order to allow them to move with temperature luctuations. With this in mind I bought some slightly shorter screws than the ones provided so that the blind would just go into the frame rather than the wall as well. Again, I took my time and measured everything twice to ensure the blinds were level.

Once they were done I moved on to inish a scratchbuilt stable for my iancée’s 1:32 scale diorama. This proved to be a di icult task as her request for both the roof and one side to be removable for photographs made the structure incredibly weak and it had to be handled with a lot of care. I used Lcut strips for the wooden sections and covered the bottom half in stone paper. Once that was done I created the roof and used ‘O’ gauge roof tiles from Scale Model Scenery to provide a weathered look. The stable doors were made for me by York Model Making. Finally I used some black weathering powder and a ine brush to put some weathering on the stone paper, bringing it more in line with the messy roof and stained wood.

Finally, I’ve made a start on my project to build the Trent End of the City Ground, the home of the team I support, Nottingham Forest. I haven’t got very far with it yet, but now the rest of my projects, and the vast majority of this year’s special edition of Great British Model Railways is almost completed, it’s next on my list!
