‘TRACTORS’ BY THE (HALF) DOZEN
Another highlight for diesel fans is the imminent arrival of six new versions of the acclaimed ‘OO’ Class 37. First appearing, to great surprise, last June, Bachmann’s Class 37 tooling suite has been designed to offer a massive amount of detail variations found across the English Electric and Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns-built batches. Bachmann will be making good use of the tooling permutations with these latest versions, which incorporate the BR green livery for the first time (thus answering many modellers’ calls). Fabricated and cast bogies, welded and riveted boiler compartments, differing cant rail grilles, Western Region pattern lamp brackets and single or twin fuel tanks are just some of the prototype-specific fittings on offer. Colas Rail’s 37175 is the most up-to-date version, featuring the latest yellow diamond logo style and, impressively, even includes reinforced windscreen frames.
BR Sectorisation liveries are also represented, including 37201 in the ever-popular ‘Dutch’ grey/yellow engineers’ fleet colours, along with refurbished 37414 in the attractive Regional Railways scheme, recreating a popular Type 3 that worked passenger services in North and South Wales, plus North West England, during the 1990s.
All of the ‘37s’ are available in Dcc-ready, DCC sound-fitted and
DCC sound deluxe versions, the latter featuring extras like rotating roof fans and realistic tinted windscreens.
