THE KILLER’S SISTER!

-

What music are you currently grooving to? Some Elvis, The Happy Goodman Family, Mickey Gilley, Otis Redding, John Fogerty. I love my iPhone – I always have my music with me.

What, if push comes to shove, is your all-time favourite album? I never tire of hearing Jerry Lee Lewis’s Sings The Country Music Hall Of Fame Vol 1 and 2, for his wonderful vocals and amazing piano playing. He makes every one of these great old classic country songs his own. [And] The piano, the Mozart trills and licks, only a genius could make them work.

What was the first record you ever bought? And where did you buy it? I had a small record player that played 45s – I don’t remember what I bought first, but I had What’d I Say by Ray Charles, I Waited Too Long, LaVern Baker, and a couple of Wanda Jackson singles, Mean, Mean Man and Let’s Have A Party. They’re in my memory forever.

Which musician, other than yourself, have you ever wanted to be? I would love to be my brother. I watched him do shows for most of my life, in beer joints, theatres, county fairs, and fancy night clubs, and I’m still amazed at what he can do.

What do you sing in the shower? A lot of gospel. The song I sing the most is Fill My Way Everyday With Love. I love this song.

What is your favourite Saturday night record?? [Jerry Lee’s] Rockin’ My Life Away. Saturday nights are meant for rockin’. And Live At The Star-Club, Hamburg after.

And your Sunday morning record? Sunday morning is time for gospel. My brother’s studio gospel and the live church recordings [Old Time Religion – Rare Recordings Of Jerry Lee Lewis In Church Preachin’, Shoutin’, and Singin’, Bear Family]. Also Southern Gospel, my album recorded in Sweden with my daughter Annie Marie.
