FASHION MAVEN, STOUT SCION

-

What music are you currently grooving to? I’ve been back into Revolver, big time, listening to the string parts of Eleanor Rigby, and the outtakes. Really, I’ve been listening to the same stuff all my life – Doors, Beatles, Kinks, Lou Reed, Velvet Underground. Electronic music doesn’t really do it for me, I’m such a ’60s, ’70s glam rock person.

What, if push comes to shove, is your all-time favourite album? If I had to say, I’d say The White Album. So experimental, and very visual, like all Beatles. I like a song that springs out images in my mind.

What was the first record you bought? And where did you buy it? I got it from Our Price on Ken High Street, it was The Slider by T.Rex. I was so proud of myself, I was about 8. I still love Marc Bolan, his childrens’ programme was the best thing ever. Which musician, other than yourself, have you ever wanted to be? No one. There are qualities that one would like to have – David Bowie I’ve admired, and Jimi Hendrix, but to want to be them would be kinda weird. You just never know what kind of problems people have.

What do you sing in the shower? Opera mainly. The Marriage Of Figaro. It gets your voice up and running for the day. I love the reverb and I really go for it, I think I’m being quiet but I’m screaming down the neighbourhood. Tony Visconti told me he once put a whole string section in a bathroom.

What is your favourite Saturday night record? I listen to the same thing all week long. I normally stay home. I’ve been writing songs for the last year or two, pretty much around the clock, slightly obsessive. Otherwise I like silence, I hate backback ground noise.

And your Sunday morning record?

Sunday Girl bby Blondie is good.

And Philip Glass,Glass if it’s a serious Sunday morning, or Bach.
