A Portrait Of Bowie (Octopus, £19.99) is published. Helmed by journalist Brian Hiatt, it features open and often poignant reflections and visual tributes by peers and bandmates including George Underwood, Nile Rodgers, Mike Garson and tour drummer Zachary Alford, who says live shows were being mooted in 2013. On October 25, meanwhile, Lazarus – Bowie’s musical of The Man Who Fell To Earth – opens at the King’s Cross Theatre, London.

The second three-day Rockaway Beach Festival begins at Butlin’s, Bognor Regis. This year’s bill includes Suede, Wire, Killing Joke, Lee Perry, Damo Suzuki, and Saint Etienne (Sarah Cracknell, above), who’ll play their 1991 debut Foxbase Alpha in its entirety, a programme they’ll revisit after their date at Heaven in London on October 5.

Third Man Books issues Total Chaos: The Story Of The Stooges As Told By Iggy Pop. Edited by Jeff Gold with contributions from Johnny Marr, Joan Jett and others, it presents the Ig’s uncut testimony with many unseen photos. “They’re definitely the only group in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who started out playing an amplified Waring blender, a vacuum cleaner, spring water bottles and a 200 gallon oil drum,” says Gold.
