In the linernotes to the 1999 PiL comp Plastic Box, Lydon claimed that Miles Davis turned up during the Album sessions and told the singer he used his voice like he did his horn. “It was actually Ornette Coleman (above),” smiles Lydon of still “the greatest compliment” he’s ever been paid. “He was certainly a jazz bloke wearing the tastiest pair of shoes I’ve ever seen – blue, two-tone brogues. I’m a fashion hound and noticed these things. I don’t think I even looked up! I’ve got a huge music collection and it was fascinating to have those jazz guys around.”
