Volker Bertelmann’s work as Hauschka is a potent and emotive blend of minimalism, electronica and classical. Here, Bertelmann imagines the near future with his trusty prepared piano, augmenting it with a Roland Jupiter-4 synth hooked up to an effects unit and, somewhat idiosyncratically, breakneck speed pianola. The results present a dense mesh of disparate tempos, hypnotic rhythms and passages of glittering beauty.
