Endless Boogie

Vibe Killer NO QUARTER. CD/DL/LP

- Jon Savage

Fifth studio set kicks out the jams: six tracks, averaging over seven minutes each.

Thanks to their jam band origins, Endless Boogie are adept at doing extended. Their MO is to set up a boogie/ stoner groove and then get on a drone that could last for ever. Texture is applied by two guitars – wah wah and psychedelic fuzz – and meaning is provided by Paul Major’s gruff, growled vocals that relate lyrics of fury and disgust (Vibe Killer), unexplained unease (Let It Be Unknown) or the circular nature of low-life activity (High Drag, Hard Doin’). Best of all is Back In ’74, a cautionary tale about shaved eyebrows, LSD, a kite festival and Kiss. Simultaneously intelligent and basic, spacey and intense, Endless Boogie do what rock music used to do and still can: provide an alternative to the mainstream, celebrate the marginal, and provide an emotional outlet for current events. Their disgust is timely, and their primordial ooze drones make for great meditative driving music. Highly recommended.
