MOJO DIARY
JULY 5 New York sound artist William Basinski plays Manchester’s Pavilion Theatre. Known for his fourvolume decaying-tape work The Disintegration Loops, this time he’ll play his new work A Shadow In Time, which contains the Bowie tribute For David Robert Jones, again created using decomposing audio tape, and the drone-based title track.
JULY 7 The Bluedot festival takes place at Jodrell Bank in Macclesfield. This year’s attractions include Pixies, Orbital, Radiophonic Workshop, Goldfrapp, Factory Floor, The Moonlandingz (above), Meilyr Jones and, aptly, Andy Votel’s DJ set The History Of Space Rock. There’ll also be appearances by Dave ‘Darth Vader’ Prowse and a celebration of Delia Derbyshire.
JULY 28-30 The Mekons’ festival Mekonville takes place in Pettaugh, Suffolk. Celebrating four decades since forming in Leeds, the bill includes the group’s art-punk first version – who last played together in New York in 1980 – and the current line-up. Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Eton Crop and Carlton B Morgan also appear. See www.mekonville. co.uk for information.
