2 Warren Zevon Excitable Boy ASYLUM 1978, EXPANDED EDITION RHINO 2008 £6.61
You Say: “Lashings of acerbic wit and needle-sharp hooks. Lawyers, Guns And Money is gold!” Michael Rae, MOJO Facebook
Comprised of Zevon’s more comically gruesome songs – left off his first Asylum album in an attempt to package him as a sensitive West Coast singersongwriter à la Jackson Browne – Excitable Boy plays like the rampaging Mr Hyde to the previous album’s fevered Dr Jekyll. Despite its short running length, and the presence of a few underweight fillers, Excitable Boy captures Zevon at his crazed best, with the title track, Lawyers, Guns And Money, Werewolves Of London, and Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner (co-written with ex-mercenary David Lindell) all lending a macabre intensity to the root biographical truth of these lurid horror tales.
