Jehst

Billy Green Is Dead YNR PRODUCTIONS. CD/DL/LP

-

The lesser-spotted Jehst takes the character from Gil Scott-Heron’s titular 1972 track into the present day on his fourth album. It’s an ambitious concept but the UK hip-hop veteran pulls it off, painting vivid pictures of dystopian distress in unfussy, baleful monotones over Beat Butcha and Paul White’s dense soul, electro and jazz soundbeds (even interpolating some of Iggy Pop’s spoken words). Worth waiting for.
