In 1966, She Trinity, a fourpiece comprising three Brits and an American, went into the studio with producer Mickie Most and recorded their version of The Crickets’ I Fought The Law. Ace year-zero she-punk, it’s widely acknowledged as the blueprint for The Clash’s version of the song and is highly sought-after. As are the original 45s by this fab compilation’s LP cover star Julie Driscoll and the CD cover star Billie Davis. Here, the former turns Inez and Charlie Foxx’s Don’t Do It No More and I Know You Love Me Not, written by her brother-in-law Brian Godding of Blossom Toes, into an emotional spectacle with her unwavering vocal delivery. The latter, backed by the Leroys, delivers Chuck Willis’s Whatcha’ Gonna Do it as a rousing club-soul dancer. Lois Wilson
