GABRIEL: WHY I QUIT GENESIS
AUGUST 16
Peter Gabriel makes a statement regarding his shock departure from Genesis in May. Having become a father in July 1974, he had decided to leave to have a healthier family life, but stayed on until all contracted gigs for the Top 10 album The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway were completed. “As an artist I need to absorb a wide variety of experiences,” he says. “It’s difficult to respond to intuition and impulse within the long-term planning the band needed.” He later tells MOJO how pleased he is that the group went on to greater success without him.
