HHH Not Dark Yet SILVER CROSS/THIRTY TIGERS. CD/DL/LP Seven years after the Side By Side shows, a full collaborative album. Calling this long-awaited is an understatement. The sisters were singing harmony when they were kids in Alabama, but in 1986, after their father killed their mother and then himself, they went their separate ways. Both eventually became singers in Nashville. In 2010 they teamed up for a short tour. Wonderful shows. So maybe my expectations for their first collaborative album were too high. What’s here are 10 songs – one co-written original and nine covers, including Nick Cave’s Into My Arms and Nirvana’s Lithium. Good taste. But despite the eclectic material, the slow tempos and monochrome tone gets wearing. There’s a fine, hymn-like take on the Dylan title track, but they’re at their best on classic country – beautiful versions of the Louvin Bros’ Every Time You Leave and Merle Haggard’s Silver Wings, with exquisite sibling harmonies.
