Peggy March

If You Loved Me: RCA Recordings From Around The World 1963-1969

-

The youngest female singer to ever top the US chart back in 1963, still performs today.

A one hit wonder in her native US, but more successful across Europe, Peggy March was just 13 when she recorded her first record, and 15 when she hit US Number 1 in 1963 with her second, I Will Follow Him, a vocal version of Franck Pourcel’s instrumental Chariot. Born Margaret Battavio in Lansdale, PA, her incredibly soulful voice fitted perfectly with the mid-’60s girl group sound. 1964’s Leon Huffpenned, Joe René-produced Can’t Stop Thinkin’ About Him, Michel Polnareff’s If You Loved Me from 1968 and the same year’s Thinking Through My Tears are typical, expressing calamitous emotions through excitable vocals and the high drama rise and fall of strings.
